Identity Theft Risk Factors: Frequent Travel
When you're a frequent traveler, especially for business, you may have more to lose than the ordinary individual if your identity is ever stolen and your life is placed on hold. For example, you wouldn’t make it through airport security without a driver's license. You couldn't rent a car or reserve a hotel room. Or you might have to sit for hours making conference calls in a phone booth if your cell phone is cut off.
| When you travel... |
But... |
| Your personal and financial information is handed to other people — hotel clerks, car rental employees, waiters — much more than on a typical day. |
People standing beside you in line may be trying to get a glimpse of your financial information. And, sometimes, employees themselves are responsible for identity theft. |
| You might only register yourself on travel and financial sites that you think are secure. |
Identity thieves can hack into even the most secure sites, so you should always remember that no site is 100% secure. |
