A number of Amazon customers are reporting that they received an email from online retail giant Amazon saying that their account password has been reset, according to ZDNet. Although it is unknown how many accounts were actually affected, the message centers on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk have confirmed that the message is genuine.
In the email, Amazon says it, "recently discovered that your password may have been improperly stored on your device or transmitted to Amazon in a way that could potentially expose it to a third party."
The company added, "We have corrected the issue to prevent this exposure."
The rest of the email goes on to say that they don't believe that passwords were improperly disclosed to a third party but that they issued a temporary password out of an "abundance of caution."
Amazon has yet to make a statement regarding the suspected password leak, but customers should remain on high alert for any suspicious activity on their financial accounts.
