In the dark about identity theft?

by Joe Mason on

Maybe I can shed some light on the subject for you. In recent years, I've come to care a great deal about combating identity theft. As a father of two young daughters, I especially care about combating child identity theft — and I find child identity theft is too often something of an unknown danger to all too many parents.

You may never have even thought about the issue of child ID theft until you stumbled upon it, or something happened to you or someone you know that caused you to research it. Several years ago when I first joined Intersections and the Identity Guard® team, child identity theft was less pervasive than it is today. But, in the days and months that followed, what we have discovered has been a real eye-opener. We at Identity Guard found ourselves wanting to do something about it, and as I have learned more and more, I wanted to share what I have learned with you.

So, along with my colleague Steve Schwartz, I've just finished writing a book called Bankrupt at Birth. It's something Steve and I discussed on numerous conversations and we finally published it in order to help others understand child identity theft — its causes, what dangers you and your children face, and what you can and should do to protect them. My hope is that a large number of parents will get and read this book, and then share its insights, tips and strategies with their friends who will do the same.

Because of the fact we constantly deal with the prevention of identity theft, and especially child identity theft, my team and I have developed a special understanding of the problem, its consequences, and actions for its remediation. My goal now is to share this expertise on a continuing basis. So I have decided to write this blog to share with you what I am learning and what I am seeing in the world of identity theft, and to occasionally add my comments to all this.

I hope this will be beneficial and I believe it will give you new insights into a problem that we all face.
