SafeConnex™ Privacy Policy

Last updated June, 2014

This privacy policy describes how Intersections’ SafeConnex services use and protect information that you provide when using the SafeConnex services. This privacy policy does not apply to other Intersections products, services, applications, or websites which are subject to their own privacy policies. This application is not intended for or directed towards children under the age of 18.

We may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are familiar with any changes.

Personal Information Collected

When you install the SafeConnex software or application, we may ask you to provide contact information such as your name and e-mail address. If you use SafeConnex to store credentials for other Intersections products or services (such as Identity Guard) we will associate the registered Intersections product or service with your SafeConnex account—through the unique identification number assigned to each SafeConnex user.  This would permit us to identify you even in cases where you may not provide your name or address directly through the SafeConnex application.

During the installation process we also collect information regarding installation of the Software which indicates whether installation of the software was completed successfully to assist us in evaluating and improving our product installation success rate.  This information will not be correlated with any personally identifiable information.  We also may collect other statistical information for product administration and analysis, to monitor utilization and to ensure good customer experience.

When you use SafeConnex we may collect a unique license number assigned to your version of the application; links clicked, including webpages visited; and aggregate data such as the number of searches conducted.

When you use SafeConnex to store your user ID and password information for financial or other online accounts of your choosing, these credentials are encrypted and stored on the device on which you have installed SafeConnex.  These credentials are stored by SafeConnex only on the device.  Neither Intersections nor its service providers maintain or store your credentials in a central database.  We may, however, collect the name of the financial institution(s) for which you store your credentials, as well as information such as how many financial accounts you store log-in credentials for, or how many credit cards you store and how many times you access those accounts or pass that credit card information to websites through the application.

When you use the SafeConnex to store your contact information (such as your name and email address); you credit card information (such as credit card numbers, card type, name on card, security code, and account billing information); or your shipping address(es) in your profile for use when you make online purchases, this information also is encrypted and maintained on your device.   Neither Intersections nor its service providers maintain or store this information in a database.

How We Use Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use various technologies to collect and retain information about visits to our websites and services such as cookies and web beacons. Cookies‚ for example‚ are small bits of computer code that we or third parties with whom we have a relationship may install on your computer when it accesses our websites. Cookies make your visit to our websites easier and more convenient. We may use cookies for purposes such as to authenticate users‚ provide tailored content‚ to facilitate the display of advertisements‚ or to determine whether a visitor is unique or whether the visitor has viewed our site before. While most browsers are set to accept cookies by default‚ Web browsers typically also have features that permit you to refuse cookies or to alert you before accepting them. Your browser manufacturer has information on changing the default setting for your specific browser. Please understand that if you refuse to accept cookies from our websites‚ you may not be able to use some portions of our websites or services.

Our websites and services also may use various technologies to collect non-personally identifiable information when someone visits our websites. For example‚ as you browse one of our websites we may collect information about your visit‚ but not about you personally. Via Web server logs‚ for example‚ we may monitor statistics such as: the number of people that visit our site‚ which page(s) are visited on our site‚ from which domain our visitors come (e.g.‚ aol.com‚ hotmail.com‚ etc.)‚ and the type of Internet browsers people use to visit our site (e.g.‚ Microsoft Internet Explorer‚ Safari (for Apple Computers)‚ Mozilla Firefox‚ etc.). We also may use outsourcing programs to assist us in analyzing this data to better tailor our websites and services.

SafeConnex may use ad servers for the serving and/or targeting of ads, promotions and other marketing messages. Cookies may be used to control the type and/or frequency of ads, promotions or other marketing messages the customer views. These companies may use information (not including your name‚ phone number or email address) about your visits to this and other websites or applications over time in order to provide advertisements on this and other websites or applications about goods and services that may be of interest to you. This information often is aggregate data or individual information that is tied to a browser or device rather than specific identifiers such as the visitor’s name and address, some of this information might be considered to be personally identifiable under some federal or state laws. These companies may employ cookies and action tags (also known as single pixel GIFS or web beacons) to measure advertising effectiveness. Any information that these third parties collect via cookies and action tags is non-personal and anonymous, although they can target advertising to your particular device.  You can exercise choice over whether to accept cookies using your browser functions as described below.  You still may receive advertisements when you use the services, but they would not be customized for you based on cookie information.

We also may use third-party analytics software provided by Tapstream Network Inc. (“Tapstream”). Tapstream uses data and tagging technologies including, but not limited to, cookies, to track and analyze your interaction with and use of the SafeConnex and may serve ads customized to you. Such tagging technologies may be placed on your computer or device. Information about your access and use of SafeConnex that does not identify you by name, including but not limited to your IP address, will be transmitted to and stored by Tapstream. Tapstream may transmit this data to us for the purposes of evaluating individuals’ access to and use of the SafeConnex. This data may also be compiled into reports for review by us. This information may also be transferred to third parties that process data on Tapstream's behalf or as required by law.

How we approach to Do-Not-Track Signals

Some Internet browsers have begun to offer what often is referred to as ‘do not track’ mechanisms for browser users to automatically signal privacy preferences to websites that they visit.  Internet browsers have only begun to include these features relatively recently and there is not yet a consensus about what steps a website should take when it receives a do-not-track signal from a site visitor’s browser or what information collection or use restrictions should be applied when a do-not-track signal is received.  As a result, our site(s) and services(s) do not currently respond to do-not-track-signals.  We are continuing to monitor do not track developments and may revisit the issue in the future.  In the meantime, you can exercise other choices available to you, including limiting the placement of cookies on your device using your browser’s cookie control features and other choices described in this privacy policy, as applicable to the site or service you are using.
