Identity Guard® and TrustedID®

As identity theft has emerged as one of the fastest-growing crimes in America over the past few years, a number of identity theft protection services have appeared to help stem this tide of fraud. If you're looking to protect yourself and your finances from the rising number of hackers and ID thieves out there, there are plenty of identity protection packages to choose from but not all of them offer the same amount of coverage. Here are some of the key features offered by Identity Guard® and TrustedID®.

Identity Guard

Identity Guard Total Protection®, offers customers a 3-bureau credit monitoring service that pulls credit reports and credit score* updates from all three of the country's major credit reporting bureaus: TransUnion®, Experian®, and Equifax®. All three credit scores and credit report updates are distributed on a quarterly basis.

In addition to its credit monitoring services, Identity Guard also provides a number of other alert features that can notify would-be victims of the potential for fraud. These include notices for ID verification and changes of address, public record and social security number monitoring, and lost wallet protection. Identity Guard also comes with ID theft insurance valued at up to $1 million**.

With TrustedID, consumers receive many of the same 3-bureau credit monitoring services as Identity Guard, with two noteworthy exceptions: Credit score updates are issued annually rather than quarterly, and credit report updates are only dispersed once a year instead of four times.

TrustedID shares many of the same identity fraud alert systems offered by Identity Guard, but lacks change of address and credit application alerts, online financial tools, keystroke encryption, 3-bureau credit analyzer, and password vault protection.

Final Verdict

Identity Guard and TrustedID trade in many of the same features and services, and customers will certainly not be at a loss of identity theft protection from either one. However, given the choice, Identity Guard offers just a little more when it comes to notification functionality and more frequent updates on credit scores and reports.
